This ad really bugs me.

Especially when the guy in the suit snidely says,
“The point of innovation is to make actual money.”
My inner geek is offended.
The attitude reeks and so does the staged dichotomy. In the commercial the suit is portrayed as the omniscient being, and the poorly attired IT guy (geek) is lacking business sense. In the real world the guy with the avatar is also the guy connecting with his peers using various types of social media. He may not always be able to tie technology and web applications back to the bottom line, but he certainly knows about them and can show you how to use them. Watching him in his element is an education lesson that many suits (I’m starting to sound like Billy on Entourage) could use for profit in the enterprise.
Although I personally don’t advocate setting up shop in Second Life for marketing or money making purposes, I do see value in creating unique ways to let customers interact with your brand. To me this is the epitome of doing.
