Mainstream Misunderstanding
Twitter has been all over the news lately, and getting mainstream attention from mainstream media. Two such examples include the San Diego Union Tribune article (which just so happened to be a front page story with my name in it), and the USA Today piece. Both articles start by portraying Twitter as pretty mundane, and then take a surface level view of some of the more significant reasons why people and companies are so anxious to share what they’re doing.
Not surprisingly, the comments to the online versions of the articles reek of judgment and ignorance. Take at look at these examples…

Quick to Judge
Most of the people who read this blog are already using Twitter, and better yet, FriendFeed, so they definitely understand the why and the how. But, if you’re one of those people that thinks Twitter is stupid, chances are you just don’t understand it, or how you can use it. I spend a lot of time helping people and companies discover why Twitter is relevant for them (whether they participate or not), and there’s almost too many examples and resources of why being a “Twit” is a actually a great thing.
Twitter may or may not be something of value in your personal or professional life, but why don’t you actually use it before you slam it. While you’re sitting at home taking the time to write a completely innocuous comment with zero context, I’m creating and engaging with a network of people who are extremely intelligent – that’s your loss, not mine.
